Michel Maisonneuve, completed 35 years of active service in the Canadian Armed Forces in May 2007 at the rank of Lieutenant-General. He distinguished himself in progressive leadership positions in Canada and abroad and served on staff and as an operational commander. He is a Commander of the Canadian Order of Military Merit and recipient of the Meritorious Service Cross. Foreign awards include the French Legion of Honour, the U.S. Legion of Merit and the NATO Meritorious Service Medal. After he retired from the Army, he was appointed by the Minister of National Defence as the first Academic Director (Principal) of Royal Military College Saint-Jean on its re-opening in December 2007. He retired from this position after more than ten years in June 2018. He served as Veterans’ representative on the federal-provincial Transition Committee overseeing the transfer of Sainte-Anne’s Hospital from Veterans Affairs Canada to the province of Québec from August 2015 to July 2019.
