Veteran Engagement
Tools to empower Veterans in research partnership.

Overview of Veteran Engagement

Veteran engagement is at the heart of CPCoE’s mission. We incorporate Veterans in every part of research, from determining our research priorities, to Veteran partnership in research, to disseminating research findings.

Veteran Engagement Toolkit

Your one-stop shop for everything you need to know about engaging Veterans in research. The CPCoE has released a new Veteran Engagement in Research Toolkit, developed in direct response to conversations with Veterans, families, researchers, clinicians, and others in the community.  These consultations revealed a clear need for stronger cultural competence, connection, and mutual understanding between Veterans and research teams. This toolkit is designed to help address that gap. Whether you're a Principal Investigator, co-investigator, trainee, clinician, policymaker, Veteran Research Partner, or other knowledge user, this resource provides practical guidance and tools to support meaningful, effective Veteran engagement in research.

Co-created with Veterans, the toolkit reflects their voices and lived experience.

Database

Are you a Veteran interested in getting more involved in research? The CPCoE is looking for Veterans interested in being Veteran Research Partners to join its new Veteran Partner Database.

The CPCoE defines Veteran Research Partners as key members of the research team involved in meaningful and active collaboration throughout the research project to shape and execute research projects. This can include tasks such as priority setting, co-design of research, conducting research, and Knowledge Mobilization.

Note: Veteran Research Partners are different from Veteran participants who voluntarily elect to participate in surveys, interviews, and trials.

By contributing, you can shape research, help get findings into the hands of the people who need them most, and continue to serve your fellow Veterans, their families, and beyond.

Veteran Well-Being
The Well-Being Measurement Tools Directory was developed in collaboration with the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families. It is designed to measure the well-being of Canadian Veterans. These tools align with the seven domains of well-being defined by Veterans Affairs Canada. While many show promise for use with Veterans, only a few have been validated for this population. Access the Well-Being Measurement Tools Directory and find surveys, questionnaires and scales to measure well-being: atlasveterans.ca/well-being-measurement
