Master Cpl (Ret) Chris Tracey is from Cape Breton, NS where after graduating Glace Bay High School in 1994, he broke his mother’s heart when he joined the Canadian Armed Forces with the Cape Breton Highlanders.
As a member of the Highlanders, Chris participated in Operation Persistence, the Sep 2nd,1998 Search and Recover mission for Swiss Air Flight 111.
A month later, Chris component transferred to the Regular Force with the Canadian Forces Military Police and attended training at the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy, CFB Borden before being posted to CFB Gagetown, NB and deployed to Bosnia on Roto 7 Op Palladium.
In 2003, Chris was posted to the Military Police Security Services and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan where the close protection team he was a member of, stood up the first Canadian Embassy to Afghanistan.
Following Afghanistan, he was posted to the Canadian Embassy to Russia in Moscow until 2006 when he was posted home to Nova Scotia at CFB Halifax.
Chris spent 2 years and occupied several positions in Halifax until transferring back to the Reserve Force and joining Halifax Regional Police.
While with HRP, Chris served in general patrol, mostly conducting “beat” activities in North Dartmouth, the Mounted Unit, Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team and the Aviation Security Unit at Halifax International Airport.
In 2020, Chris’ Post Traumatic Stress, which he was diagnosed with in 2002, finally forced him into retirement. With the help of his treatment team, he realized his full time job was now taking care of himself and his mental health.
Now, Chris’ passion and purpose in life is to advocate for mental health by telling his story.
