Chief Petty Officer 1st Class (ret’d) Robert (Bob) Cléroux MMM CD is originally from Ottawa and started his military development as an Air Cadet. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1976 serving first with the Militia with Le Regiment de Hull for one year and in 1977 on graduation from High School, he joined the Regular Forces and the Navy as a Marine Engineering Mechanic. He served aboard HMCS Provider, HMCS Mackenzie, HMCS Kootenay, HMCS Yukon, HMCS Calgary, HMCS Ottawa as the CERA and lastly as Coxswain of HMCS Algonquin. Highlights of his seagoing years include operational tours in the Persian Gulf and the Adriatic Sea.

Expanding his naval experience, Bob was appointed to roles as Marine Engineer Career Manager, after serving as Coxswain in Algonquin he was appointed as the CANFLTPAC Fleet Chief. He rose to the challenges of serving as Maritime Command Chief Petty Officer from 2007 until 2010 and became the Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer in 2010 until his retirement in 2013.

During his service he volunteered with the 744 (Cowichan) Air Cadets Squadron in Duncan, helping preparing Cadets with public speaking and board preparations.

Bob was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Fund from 2010 until 2022 and served as the President for 5 years.

Bob as been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 2006, while in Rockland Ontario he served has Poppy Chair, Sports Officer and Public Relations and was the President and Past President of The Rockland and District Branch 554.

Upon moving to North Cowichan BC Bob transferred his membership to the Malahat Legion Branch 134 in Shawnigan Lake where he continues to volunteer and now serves as the Vice President and Bar Manager.

Bob as been serving as a director of the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans since 2025
